Response to Gerard Powers’s Our Moral Duty in Iraq

In response to Gerard Powers’s Our Moral Duty in Iraq, I could not agree with him more. Although I feel that the war is not as unnecessary as a lot of the media and politicians say, I feel that it is our duty now to see it out until the end. If we were to pull out now, regardless of whether going in was justified or not, the world would have another Vietnam situation on their hands. The Iraqi people are far from ready to handle their own problems and would easily crumble and fall back into a chaotic state without international help. At this point we need to be able to fall in behind our troops and see this thing till the end. More people died in the Mexican drug war last year then have died in this entire war on terror and yet the media doesn’t show every death in that conflict. Its time we stopped letting the media tell us what to believe and finish what we have started.

  1. I couldn't agree more with this blog. The question of whether or not we were right for going into iraq or not is in the past, right now it is just important to not leave until the people of iraq are ready to take over and that isn't looking like anytime soon. If we pull out too soon then all the work we have been attempting and all the soldiers who have died will have been for nothing.

  2. I expressed the same feelings in my blog to this article and to the comment already posted in its response. I am glad to see that other people have felt the same way about this war, as I have noticed many who are in opposition to our continuing involvment in Iraq. Although the loss of life, as is the case with any war, is an unfortunate aspect in the protection of our country, I think it is important to also support and respect our moral duty to securing peace for the Iraqi people. It is important for countries to help each other and I think that it would be great to see our country be the leader to initiate the idea of this international cooperation, having the potential to effectively end war altogether.
