Belinda Luscombe’s Why We Flirt
After reading Belinda Luscombe’s Why We Flirt there are a lot of things that make sense and I feel that most of it is common knowledge. Everyone knows that everyone flirts whether married single or somewhere in between its obvious. Of course married people have more to lose by doing it, that’s the point of being married. I am sure though that of all the married people that flirt the actual number that cheat is very low. For single people flirting is just a way of socializing and helps to reduce awkwardness during communication between sexes.
Sarah Pederson’s A Family of a Different Feather
After reading Sarah Pederson’s A Family of a Different Feather I have mixed emotions on the subject. Yes it makes sense to explain issues in a child’s life especially when they are curious about the lives of their friends. This is a far better option then ignoring the child’s questions and leaving them to fend for themselves which can cause anxiousness in the child. The problem is that this parent feels that she needs a book to communicate what is going on with her kid. Yes it might be awkward to explain it but children will feel much better if they get their answers from the ones they love then some book.

Response to Gerard Powers’s Our Moral Duty in Iraq
In response to Gerard Powers’s Our Moral Duty in Iraq, I could not agree with him more. Although I feel that the war is not as unnecessary as a lot of the media and politicians say, I feel that it is our duty now to see it out until the end. If we were to pull out now, regardless of whether going in was justified or not, the world would have another Vietnam situation on their hands. The Iraqi people are far from ready to handle their own problems and would easily crumble and fall back into a chaotic state without international help. At this point we need to be able to fall in behind our troops and see this thing till the end. More people died in the Mexican drug war last year then have died in this entire war on terror and yet the media doesn’t show every death in that conflict. Its time we stopped letting the media tell us what to believe and finish what we have started.

War Is a Force That Gives Us Meaning
After reading Chris Hedge’s War Is a Force That Gives Us Meaning I am almost confused and perplexed at his point of view. I completely agree with him that humans almost need war to exist and we use it to give life purpose as well as solve problems that are never figured out through demonstration. The part that threw me off though was when he almost in the same sentence likened the United State’s war on terror with the ethic fighting in Bosnia and Kosovo. Maybe I’m wrong but the last time I checked we weren’t slaughtering people based on their background. It is a little extreme to compare killing terrorists to ethic cleansing at any rate.
An Inconvenient Truth Response
In response to Tom Harris’s article I could no more agree with his opinions and his sources opinions on the Inconvenient Truth. Gore’s movie was nothing more then a scare tactic aimed at pushing his agenda. As real scientists stated there was actually no proof behind his claims of global warming. It is a typical use of fear on the public that pushes the masses into doing something that makes no sense once anyone with any expertise looks at it. If this was confined to just Gore it would only be a small problem but most of this capitalist society uses it to sell product and drive ratings up on the news. This forces people to live in fear and makes the global situation look much worse then it is.

Ultimate Therapy
After reading Ultimate Therapy: Commercial Eugenics in the 21st Century, I’m almost slightly scared for the direction that human research is heading. The ability to alter, add, or delete certain genes/traits would change the way child birth is looked at. No longer would it be taking the hand that fate has dealt genetically, but more of a Mr. Potato Head pick your child type set up. This could lead to a breed of super athletes and musicians that would change the human playing field. It reminds me of a movie that came out awhile ago, Gattaca, where everyone was breed for certain reasons and those who could not afford it were outcasts. Strange how Hollywood could become reality.

The Cult of the Amateur by Andrew Keen
After reading The Cult of the Amateur by Andrew Keen, I can almost feel the pompous vibe that this guy must put off in person. The ability to post thoughts, music, or videos to the internet is like he suggests in no way regulated or restricted so everyone is free and able to do what they please. Sure this may have led to sea of trash put into the public forum but who cares? This guy talks like there is a limit on the amount of information the internet can hold and that capacity should be regulated like a bouncer at a club on a late Saturday night. Obviously this isn’t true and the trade off for this mired of junk is brilliance once in a while in every form. One example I can give is the band Pink Spiders who’s first public gig was an open forum to the public using their Myspace page. They came around about my junior year in high school and while I’m not crazy about them, just yesterday I heard their song Give Me Chemicals on Sirius radio’s Alt Nation. Imagine that, an amateur going from open web posting to music stardom, eat your heart out Andrew Keen.
